Abstract
Leadership is a complex term that goes beyond simple authority and control. Recent scholarship continues to emphasise the dynamic and relational nature of leadership. Dinh et al. (2020) conceptualise leadership as “an emergent, co-constructed process in which individuals and groups interact to shape direction and achieve shared objectives within complex environments” (p. 145). This perspective highlights the collaborative and context-dependent aspects of leadership, moving beyond the traditional focus on individual traits or positions of authority. Furthermore, Banks et al. (2022) argue that effective leaders today are characterised by their ability to foster psychological safety, inclusivity, and adaptability within teams. They state, “Contemporary leaders must cultivate environments where individuals feel valued, empowered, and resilient in the face of uncertainty and change” (p. 312). This reflects a growing recognition of emotional intelligence and wellbeing as central to leadership efficacy.
